The technique and safety
Does the FAKtP technique present risks to the health of the eye?
Keratopigmentation is a surface surgery. Unlike colored implants or laser depigmentation, it does not enter inside the eye, which preserves vital structures such as the lens or the iris.
How does Dr. Hojabr guarantee the safety of the procedure?
Every project begins with a rigorous preoperative assessment. Only patients with a healthy cornea and a stable ocular structure are declared eligible for the intervention.
Can the pigments move or leak into the eye?
No. BIOCHROMAEYES® pigments are inserted into a sealed micro-tunnel within the corneal stroma. They are designed to be stable and cannot migrate to other parts of the eye.
Comfort & Pain
Will I feel pain during the operation?
The procedure is completely painless thanks to the use of powerful anesthetic eye drops. You will feel no cutting or stinging.
What is the sensation after the procedure?
Once the anesthesia wears off, you may feel discomfort, similar to having a grain of sand in your eye, for 24 to 48 hours. Moisturizing drops will be prescribed for optimal comfort.
Is general anesthesia necessary?
No, the procedure is performed under local anesthesia. You remain conscious, which allows for immediate recovery and a return to your home (or hotel) the same day.
Vision & Long-term Health
Does the pigmentation reduce my field of vision?
No. The pigment is deposited in an annular (ring) shape. The center of your cornea (the visual axis) remains completely transparent, thus preserving your visual acuity intact.
Can I have cataract surgery in the future?
Yes. Keratopigmentation does not interfere with future eye surgeries (cataract, glaucoma, retina). The surgeon will be able to access internal structures without being blocked by the superficial pigment.
Does the color affect night vision?
In rare cases, light halos may appear at night during the first few weeks, while the brain adapts to the new brightness. This phenomenon is transient.
Dryness & Side Effects
Does keratopigmentation cause permanent dry eye?
Temporary dryness is common, just like after any laser surgery. It is easily treated with artificial tears and generally disappears in a few weeks.
What are the classic side effects after the procedure?
Slight redness and sensitivity to light (photophobia) are normal during the first few days. Wearing sunglasses is recommended during this period.
Results & Touch-ups
Is the result truly permanent?
Yes, the color is designed to last a lifetime. However, as with any pigment, a very slight fading may occur after several years, making the gaze look even more natural.
Can I change my mind and modify my color later?
The technique is evolutive. While it is difficult to return to your original color, it is entirely possible to perform a touch-up to densify the color or slightly modify the shade (for example, going from blue to turquoise).
Daily Life & Sports
How long do I need to stop sports?
Rest is short-lived. You can resume light activity after 48 hours, but intensive or contact sports (boxing, football) must be avoided for 1 month.
When can I swim again?
It is imperative to wait 4 weeks before going to the swimming pool, the sea, or the sauna to avoid any risk of bacterial infection during healing.
Deadlines & Eligibility
I have already had laser surgery for myopia (LASIK); am I eligible?
Yes, but a waiting period of 6 to 12 months after your refractive surgery is necessary. Dr. Hojabr will verify the residual thickness of your cornea during the check-up.
Do you operate on minors with parental authorization?
We believe that aesthetic keratopigmentation should be reserved for adult patients capable of mature reflection and fully informed consent. For this reason, we do not recommend this procedure for persons under 18 years of age, except for exceptional medical indications evaluated on a case-by-case basis.
